Muncaster Talks: Romans in Ravenglass... the story so far

Tuesday 24 September 2024 from 6:30pm

Romans in Ravenglass is a community group set up the help protect and investigate the Roman site and to raise its profile as an archaeological resource.

For many years its members have been collecting finds eroding out of the fort due to coastal erosion. In 2013 – 14 with support from the LDNPA they undertook a community archaeology project and excavation which greatly increased the knowledge of the vicus, bath house and fort. Test pits in subsequent years, including those here within the Muncaster Gardens, and along with another excavation in 2023 have shed further light on the activity of life in Ravenglass during Roman times.

Kurt Hunter-Mann AOC Archaeology, has led the investigations – join him to hear the story of Romans in Ravenglass so far.

6:30pm: Arrival and refreshments in the Great Hall
7pm: Talk by Kurt Hunter-Mann, with introduction from a member of the Frost-Pennington Family
Followed by a Q & A and free time to explore the Castle State Rooms, with Curators on hand for questions.
